Greetings from Shangri-La's Mactan Island Resort!
Can u believe that there's free wi-fi signal at the lobby lounge of Shangri-La? How hitech!!!
Easter Sunday
I'm in SM Megamall right now. It's Easter Sunday and there are lots of people. It's quite ironic thinking that while poverty has crept into the majority of the Filipinos, yet, here they are, filling the malls on an Easter Sunday.
It's been the escape of many Filipinos from the reality aside from watching television. The television has a very strong impact on our lives. In an hour of watching funny noontime shows, they temporarily forget about their problems. Same goes with going to the malls. They'd just chill out, sitting on benches while watching their kids play sweatless - wait a minute! I also do that!
We've just been to the California Garden Square. I did some "cleansing" in our unit through the feng shui 'singing bowl'. Our friend, Sharon, ex-drummer of Fun2C, came along.
We're now in Megamall again to meet with our friend, Regina Grace. Inna, as what we call her, used to be in a loveteam with Marlou on their TV show, That's Entertainment years ago. She then became one of my closest friends in showbiz until now. We call each other "kumare" (koo-ma-re) because she's the godmother of Selena & I'm the godmother of her daughter, too.
We just strolled around the mall until 8PM. We all went back to our place to have dinner & to chat more comfortably. Inna is in a midst of a big problem and my mom and I gave her some advices. They went back past 1AM.
I've been walking for more than 8 hours and I guess I need a good night's sleep. It's 3AM.
I need drugs!
Good Friday
A procession from the Paco Catholic Parish Church passed right infront of our house before 6PM. It's the procession marking the death of Jesus Christ. There were more people who joined the procession than last year.
I'm going to peep on our brand new condominium unit at the California Garden Square tomorrow. We're very proud of it. The community is getting bigger and better. It's not the best investment but I'm glad that we have a good one.
Out again - at last
Upon hearing the "light exercises" from my doctor, my eyes lightened up. What a good timing on a hot summer's day. One word came up to my mind - MALL! So the 3 of us attacked Robinson's Place to unwind. Met with brothers too. Selena spent her time at the Play Box, it's an activity kiddie gym where you can leave your kids watched over by trained "nannies", while you do your shopping. Spent my time in the mall walking a bit then sitting down when I'd feel weak. Had our dinner at the KFC before heading back home.
Just had a pancit canton frenzy with my brothers, Marlou and Selena. I'm planning to go up to my room after this blog. Miss my online days though...
Boring holy week
I'm home
Palm Sunday
Thank God it's over
An anaesthesia was administered to paralyzed me from the waist down. I was shot on my spine.
My operation went well. The surgery lasted for almost 2 hours. During the surgery, I was asleep most of the time, was only awaken during the last 30 minutes due to chilling temperature in the operating room. Even the doctors alternately rubbed their palms to warm my cheeks.
I was then directed to the recovery room. They had to wait until the numbness on my lower half body's lost. It took me 3 hours to wiggle my toe. They also put a catheter in me so I won't have to get up to pee.
I got back to the room at 1PM. I still can't move much. I even have to let out a soundless laughter everytime I laugh!
Thanks for all your prayers. Please continue to pray for my speedy recovery. God bless!
Anaesthesiologist
Getting admitted
Pls include me in your prayers and for my speedy recovery so that I will be able to perform in my A1 condition on May at the Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu.
Settled back home
Last night, we went to a bar in QC, near the ABS-CBN compound. We even drove by Pinoy Big Brother's House but I couldn't take proper pics of it. This bar we went to, has an acoustic band. When the female singer called out my name to jam (as a favor for my friend), she paused for a while and said, "Sarita? Kuala Lumpur Malaysia? I know you, we've already met! Shangri-La, right? I've even been to your website!". AJ, the former singer of Giggles Band who played in Genting Highlands, went to Shangri-La Hotel once with her former band to wait for their friend to pick them all up. And they happened to watch our performance. It's a small world indeed!
I'm going to another hospital later on for second opinion. Will update you later, k?
Onboard Cebu Pacific
I'm now onboard a Cebu Pacific flight bound to Manila. They've just served snacks: strawberry biscuit and iced green tea. My mom has prepared our favorite dish - Tortang Talong - so gotta save some space in my tummy.
Cebu Pacific is known for their fun flights. They have games to entertain their passengers. They would usually have a game called Bring Me where they ask the passengers to bring any of the funny and unusual stuff they'd ask them to bring. Like a sock with a hole or a money bill with a certain last digit from its serial number. Or sometimes a strand of grey hair!
I won a travel shoe bag once before. Sometimes they'd even ask the winning passenger to sing. But we're just 20 mins away from Manila and they haven't done any games. Guess I'll just have to give up my enthusiasm. Anyway, being with Selena is priceless than anything else in this world.
Manila in a few hours...
We're at the airport right now, we're waiting for our flight. It's been delayed so our flight will be 20 mins delayed. Manila is only 50 mins flight from Cebu.
Just had a relaxing massage by a blind man. Marl is having his turn right now. It's so cheap. A 30-minute massage is US$2 only, while an hour massage is US$4 and so on and so forth.
A while ago, we dropped by the Duty Free Shop and bought chocolates for presents. Hershey's have their promotion. A bag of their chocolates at US$27 gives u free 2 bags and a cap. I already have lots of bags at home. So I just bought 3 bags of Hershey's chocs and they gave me a free car TV! Although it's black & white, at least you can still use it for news or for past time. We can put it in our LiteAce van. But it's more like buying a car TV at US$81 with free 3 chocolate bags. At least I'd like to think of it that way.
I'm gonna see Selena soon! Can't wait!
First holi"day" in Cebu
We went to SM Cebu to get our tickets for Manila, we also had dimsum dinner. It was Marlou's brother driving us around. And I sat with little Shaun, Marlou's nephew, at the back of our van.
Let me tell you something about 5 year old Little Shaun. He's so sweet and lovable. His mom is working in the US and I guess he just misses a mother figure at home. He would embrace me most of the time while we would chit-chat at the back of the van about everything. He became so attached to me - and my boobs! LOL. Before the night ended, he put his arms around my waist and said "I want to touch your boobs" and immediately placed his hands over them! Cheeky kid! And he's just 5 years old, huh! Men!!!
After dinner, we went to Shangri-La Mactan Resort to check out the place. It's a very nice resort eventhough it's night time. There's a band playing at the lounge where we will be playing next month. We just watched them from a distance, we didn't sit because we just planned to drive around the city the whole night. We also drove by The Village, The Fun & Food Junction and the Waterfront Hotel, just to check out the places.
We've just finished packing our stuff now. We're all set and ready to go to Manila later tonight (Tuesday). Can't wait to see my family especially Selena!
Hello Cebu!!!
When we reached the airport, it was full of people. The queue to the Malaysia Airlines counter was like almost a hundred people when we got there. But everything was just going well, we managed to check-in with just enough time to have a bite at the McDonalds. But that bite had to be fast because the amount of people at the Immigration counter was unbelievable! We stood there for almost an hour queueing up! But time was on our side. We reached the gates just in time before we boarded the plane. I had 2 hand carry bags so I raced myself into the plane to get a space for my bags. And I was just lucky. Marl too.
Our flight was delayed for a few minutes I guess. I slept through the flight before we made a 45 minute transit to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and I was just glad that we didn't have to take our bags out. I slept halfway through the flight to Cebu. I couldn't sleep anymore when I noticed that we weren't flying that high. We were just above the clouds and I could see the small islands of the Philippines. Took some photos. I wish I could see a rainbow, I thought. In less than 10 minutes, I was surprised and got my camera - I actually saw a rainbow! Well, just a part of it, but I didn't care, it's still a rainbow! I was so happy. I enjoyed the great view of the archipelago, sometimes wondering if there's someone out there living on those stray islands.
Touched down Cebu at 3:05PM, managed to get out of the airport before 4PM. Dropped off Brice in a nearby supermarket where she met up with her high school friend. We proceeded to Jollibee in Mandaue to eat, I was starving but didn't have appetite to eat due to lack of sleep. Reached our orange house just after 5PM. I watched the talkshow The Buzz right away. I really missed Filipino TV shows!!!
Had a nap until 10PM. Watched the wedding special of Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago. It was so touching and so special that it brought tears in my eyes. I can say Claudine have just had her dream wedding come to reality. I checked mails after 12 midnight. And for a restless person like me, I just had to blog away...
I'M FINALLY BACK HOME!!!
Saturday off in KL
After doing so, we met up with the next band, Rhythm Scent, in the lobby who were just checking in. Gave them some pointers and wished them luck and all the best.
We just chilled the whole April Fools' Day - because we were off! An off day on a Saturday in KL. That's something. Yeah, something to really enjoy.
In the afternoon, we listened to the band's soundcheck. They had a problem mainly because the sound system they're using is provided by the hotel. We, the URB, have our own system (mixer & effects) which we bring anywhere we play. We even have our own wireless microphones. They definitely sounded different from us and we did everything we could to help. I still hoped that they will get through their first performance night just right - if not flawless.
At night, we just hang around the lobby lounge, supporting the Rhythm Scent on their first night performance. They were doing a great job, I must say. I also jumped from one table to another to mingle with our regular guests and have drinks with them. The staff gave us a bottle of wine and another cocktail drink. Our "KL family" was also around. We went to The Pub to bid the local band goodbye as well.
After a great night, we had a meal at the mamak stall - wherelse - behind Concorde. Once again, we shared a great time with our KL families over some plates of Indo mee goreng. After all, it's the company that really matters.
We then went to Concorde to bid our friends goodbye. Didn't stay long because we haven't fully packed our things yet. So at 4AM, we went back to the hotel to pack. Marlou had a rest while I was accompanied by Edlyn (Rhythm Scent singer) as I did the last packing.
Finished at 6AM, prepared and checked out the hotel and now at the airport. I'm definitely gonna miss my Shangri-La KL family and all my friends in KL.
URB's last night at the Shangri-La KL 2006
Before the 1st set was over, the lounge's already full. Made my coffee for the break, but didn't even have a chance to have a sip. The band was served with a shooter drink - peppermint with baileys - for warm-up. The bartenders' goal was to get us drunk by the 4th set.
On our 2nd set, we already were in our top performance level. The night was just turning wonderful as we saw more regular guests and friends coming to see us off. After the 2nd set, the band was served with B52. Plus, I had a glass of wine and a shot of champagne. And that just put me into the perfect mood.
Our 3rd set was the best set of the night, but was exhausting. As I did my kungfu moves in Shanghai Tan, I accidentally kicked the glass covering the stage with my stilletto heel a little too hard that it cracked. I mean the glass. Oopsie doopsie! Lucky for me, it's only seen when you're onstage. Can't be seen by the guests. But man, I was more worried with my heels, didn't want it to break while I was in the middle of the set. If that happened, I would have danced with my barefoot and might step on the broken glass. Actually I owned up today because I didn't want anyone to be blamed. Besides, they would understand if it's me - I mean, my moves! Hahaha! Hopefully they won't charge it to my account when we go back here.
During the break before the final set, the bartender prepared the best shot - a Flaming Lamborghini! Whew, it really got me. It was one hell of a drink. Drank more red wine and risked of mixing the damn drinks. I didn't care, we were going for our final set anyway. And getting pissed is a "last night" tradition to me.
Our last set was fun. We were laughing all the time, Brice could barely concentrate. She was worried she might fall off. I wasn't really that drunk (yet) but I just enjoyed the "hang" of it. I guess it helped to know the fact that we're definitely coming back here on October, for me not to feel sad as I usually would feel every last night performance.
Marlou took over the stage couple of times successfully especially when we did "Time To Say Goodbye" which everyone thought was our last song. Did a speech after that song thanking each and everyone in the crowd for coming and supporting the URB Band all these years. Our last song was a bit vague to me, I know I did dance and performed it well but the alcohol really got into my brains. I have flashes of the last set as I tried to beat my brains out about the exact details. But that last song was still a blur to me!!! Grrrrrr!!!
After we stopped at 1:10AM, we said goodbye to our friends and took pictures (Of course!!!). The bartenders were happy to have made their goal to get us drunk. I challenged them to make me a hot shooter - The Blowjob. The drink, not the act, silly! :-)
For those who don't know what kind of drink a "blowjob" is, it's a shooter in a tiny glass that you have to drink without using your hands. So you'll have to try to hold the glass using your lips. Just in case there are readers of this thinking the same way like I do, I want to make it clear that the "lips" that I'm talking about here are the lips on the face. LOL. Going back to the topic, the bartenders tried to impress me and made something more interesting than the Blowjob. It's served in a saucer, with 2 tiny glasses of whatever-alcohol shots, divided by a BANANA covered with whipped cream. So I sipped the 2 shots with a straw and to finalize the drink, I licked the whipped cream and bit the banana. Hmmm, is it just me or is it really getting hot in here???
I did remember that I tried to help Marlou pack up the things onstage - unsuccessfully. It was funny because he asked me to get his piano bag from our room. Instead, I took our empty luggage bag and dragged it in the hallway. I wasn't sure if Marl made it clear, but everything was a blur anyway so whatever! LOL
I passed out afterwards. I was only planning to take a nap but it went on until I woke up at 10:30AM today - with my makeup on!!! I hurriedly went to the toilet to take it off as I laughed at myself for getting too pissed to remember some things I did last night.
Thanks to friends and guests who have supported the URB Band in Shangri-La Hotel since 2002. You made it possible for us to be at our best and show to the world that Filipinos are very much appreciated. Thank you soooooo much!
